Behind-the-Scenes - Hollywood Adventure

Over the past few months, we’ve been reflecting on the Manjusha Jewels journey and the driving forces behind our mission of creating inspiring jewelry designs that reflect the beauty of art, nature and, of the wearer. Though challenges have been met along the way, the relationships we’ve formed and the adventures they’ve unfolded are what really motivate us.

When we first started out, we couldn’t have imagined the exciting experiences that we would encounter along the way. Today, we would like to take the first of many opportunities to share more of our behind-the-scenes story with you.
Let’s go back to 2014. Sanjiv and Joey – husband and wife, and owners of Manjusha Jewels – driving around sunny Los Angeles with a trunk full of jewelry.

You might be wondering what we were thinking driving around a big city with thousands of dollars’ worth of gems in our car. Although it would be fun to go the route of saying it was part of some perilous plan, the not so sensational truth is that we were on our way to meet with some of our accounts. But what happened next truly was an adventure straight out of Hollywood.

While driving around LA, we picked up a call from a woman who said she was a costume designer at Universal Studios. The woman sounded so enthusiastic that we thought it was some sort of prank call. She said she had been browsing the internet when she came across the Manjusha Jewels’ website and thought our products were perfect for a TV series called State of Affairs. She said the CIA agent in the series would be traveling to exotic countries. Again, thinking it was some sort of joke, we didn’t pay too much attention but went along with her invitation to meet her the next day at Universal Studios.

We decided to confirm the validity of the conversation by calling back the number. We were shocked when someone picked up with the greeting “Costume Department, NBC Studios.” Wide-eyed and full of excitement, we showed up to the studio lot for our appointment where we had the opportunity to meet Katherine Heigl and Alfre Woodard, and watched them shooting an episode while the costume designer selected multiple units of our jewelry (so that if one was lost, they could rely on backups).

And that was the beginning of what quickly blossomed into a wonderful friendship and business relationship with the costume designer, Victoria.

A few years later, she asked us to send products for Melissa Benoit, the main character and actress in The CW’s (CBS/Warner Brothers) hit show, Supergirl. Melissa, Katherine, Alfre, and other actresses have been wearing Manjusha Jewels ever since, and what an honor it has been.

We can’t wait to see where the relationships we continue to forge lead us in the future, and to share them with you.
